World Skin Health Day 2021
Getting help, helps.
Hello reader! 😊
Today is World Skin Health Day! What is World Skin Health Day, you ask? Well, the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) collaborated and created this day.
Since 2013, World Skin Health Day has been observed all around the world to promote awareness of and treat a variety of skin diseases and conditions.
One of the most prevalent human illnesses is actually skin disease. According to the World Health Organisation, skin disorders impact approximately 900 million people worldwide at any given moment. Furthermore, the World Health Organisation’s International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) covers almost 3000 skin or skin-related diseases.
The mission of World Skin Health Day is to raise awareness of and promote skin health worldwide.
Today, as someone who studies skin and whose profession is currently affiliated with Allied Health Professions Australia, I recognise and reflect on the diversity of skin illnesses and the significance of understanding how these conditions affect the wellbeing of individuals. Whilst I enjoy treating people with lasers and lights, and performing fluffy treatments, it’s so much more than aesthetics. One of the reasons I enjoy this profession is that it allows me to empower people to make better lifestyle, skincare, and treatment decisions.
The Australasian College of Dermatologists is commemorating the day by developing the ‘Help, Helps’ campaign, which will serve as a resource centre for people suffering from chronic skin, hair, and nail diseases. Help, Helps strives to inspire and empower many Australians dealing with chronic skin, hair, and nail diseases to seek help, as well as increase understanding of the impact of these conditions.
Seeking help can be life-changing!
